ARTIST STATEMENT
I am Yitong Ye (born in 1994, China), an interdisciplinary artist, currently lives and works in Beijing, China. I obtained my Master of Fine Art from the University of Southampton and Bachelor of Fine Art from Birmingham City University.
My recent art project focused on exploring the relationship between humans and non-humans in the post-biological era. I am fascinated by ecological and sociopolitical issues in modern society. I enjoy in-depth study of power, control and the relationship between human consciousness and subconsciousness, personal memory and emotional experience, thinking about life and death, social concepts and political correctness involved in bio-political relations.
My works are integrated with my personal experience, social observation and scientific research. By simulating the reproduction of cells through symbols, metaphors, and visual elements, a system of artistic practices is established to evoke emotion, delve into the realm of one's own subconscious mind, and contemplate the complex fabric of life, memory, and self-expression. I am not restricted to any forms. I encourage myself using various media such as oil painting, printmaking, installation, video, and performance to express my concept accurately. I wish to form an art research system through experimentation.
